Just for fun – and at multiple request – I’m posting one of the favorite pieces of writing I created in the process of receiving my Masters in Business Administration at LFGSM.  The assignment was to review a process at your place of business through the lens of operations management; a noble task and one that could theoretically be shared with your fellow corporate suits and improve the business, get you in front of the CEO, net you a promotion, make way for corporate apotheosis, etc.

Thing was, I had just been fired.  There was no CEO to impress, no promotions to vie for, no corporate suits around me to share with.

I briefly considered the options my professor gave me, which were (in my words):

  1. Drag yourself through the emotional muck of recalling some minor aspect of the job you just lost, and write a detailed paper on it that would be ultimately pointless and shared with no one.
  2. Make something up out of whole cloth, perhaps recalling some insignificant aspect of the job you just lost and write a detailed paper on it that would be ultimately pointless and shared with no one.

Naturally, I chose option:

  1. Write a detailed paper on something you see around you that is pointless but ideally as annoying as possible to your family, do everything in your power to force them to bow to the dictates of your superior methodologies (reminding them frequently “This.  This is all I have now. Don’t take this from me.”), and then share it with everyone.

This is that paper.  Enjoy (?)
